Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 81 OF 365

And the men of Ai struck down about thirty-six men (Joshua 7:5 NKJV).

Do you consult God in prayer each day?

While Joshua was a righteous leader, he made some errors. After defeating Jericho, he suffered a defeat at Ai, resulting in the loss of 36 soldiers. This emphasizes the necessity of seeking God's guidance through prayer in all situations, rather than relying solely on past victories.

The lesson is further emphasized in tomorrow’s reading from Joshua 9 with the deception of the Gibeonites, as Joshua failed to seek the Lord’s will. Therefore, it is essential to pray for wisdom in every decision.

It's noteworthy that the name Joshua, meaning salvation, is translated as Jesus in Greek, highlighting salvation by God. In our New Testament reading in Luke 2, Jesus' parents lose Him for three days and find Him in the Temple. Upon being found, Jesus was busily carrying out His Father’s will, saying, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” (Luke 2:49 NKJV). May you emulate Jesus, faithfully seeking the Father's will, rather than Joshua, who neglected prayer and was deceived!

Employment Point: Wisely consult the Father daily to care skillfully for His business.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
