Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 80 OF 365

As Commander of the army of the LORD I have now come (Joshua 5:14 NKJV).

Do you yield to God’s commands?

Throughout biblical history, a consistent theme emerges—people of faith yield to God’s commands. Consider Joshua, facing the intimidating task of conquering Jericho, “And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, 'Are You for us or for our adversaries?'" (Joshua 5:13 NKJV). The unexpected response reveals divine authority: "No, but as Commander of the army of the LORD I have now come" (Joshua 5:14 NKJV). Wisely, Joshua yields to the angel and is informed that he stands on holy ground.

Fast forward 1,400 years, while shepherds receive an angelic visit (Luke 2:8–16). Yielding to the angel’s directives, they encounter the eternal Son of God and worship Him on holy ground.

In both accounts, faithful individuals yield to God’s commands. Like them, may you heed Jesus as your Leader, yield to His teachings, and find yourself in His holy presence.

Employment Point: Bow before your Commander and yield always to His direction.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
