Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 75 OF 365

Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom (Mark 15:38 NKJV).

Why does God the Father hear you when you pray?

In the Old Testament, access to the presence of God was limited. Only one designated man, the high priest, could enter the Holy of Holies annually to offer sacrifices for the people's sins. However, with Jesus' death, everything changed. Mark recounts the historic event, writing, “And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last. Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom” (Mark 15:37–38 NKJV).

This torn veil symbolizes a significant shift. Previously, the thick curtain separated the Holy of Holies, God's presence, from the rest of the temple. Its tearing from top to bottom at the moment of Jesus' death signifies that access to God is now open to all through Christ. No longer are people dependent on a high priest to intercede on their behalf; instead, believers can approach God directly through prayer because of Jesus' sacrificial death.

Praise the Lord that you have access to the Father through Jesus Christ, who tore down the veil that separated mankind from God!

Employment Point: Enter God’s holy presence through Jesus’ sacrifice.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
