Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 74 OF 365

And if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17 NKJV).

What did it cost Jesus to make you God’s prized possession?

Throughout history, God's people have held a special place in His heart. In today’s reading, Moses emphasizes this, writing, “Also today the LORD has proclaimed you to be His special people” (Deuteronomy 26:18 NKJV). Israel was chosen by God, elevated above other nations, to reflect His light and character to the world.

Transitioning to the New Testament, we find that believers in the Church age also enjoy a lofty status before God. But how did Christians attain this valued standing? Today’s passage from Mark 15 sheds light on this question. Jesus, in His selfless act, died among sinners to save sinners (Mark 15:24–32). As the Son of God and King of Israel, He endured mockery and humiliation, with a sign placed above His head proclaiming Him as the King of the Jews. Little did His executioners realize that His death paid for the sin of the world and elevate believers as prized possessions before God. Yet, this redemption came at a high cost—the sacrifice of the King's own life. Take some time to reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice.

Employment Point: Relish your prized standing before God, remembering what it cost.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
