Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 60 OF 365

Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me (Mark 8:34 NKJV).

Are you truly committed to obeying Jesus’ teachings as His disciple?

Upon placing your faith in Him, salvation is secured, but the journey of discipleship begins. As a disciple, you are called to continual learning. Consider these three characteristics of a disciple of Jesus and assess whether you are employing them.

  • Firstly: self-denial… Jesus commands you to surrender your life. You belong to Him, purchased by His blood; therefore, you no longer live for yourself.
  • Secondly: take up your cross… He calls you to take up your cross, symbolizing the willingness to suffer for the sake of Jesus. You must be ready to experience pain as a follower of Jesus.
  • Lastly: obedience… Jesus commands you to follow Him continually, embracing a life of ongoing discipleship by submitting to His teachings.

So, are you a dedicated disciple?

Employment Point: Deny self, take up your cross, and continually follow Jesus.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
