Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year TwoSample

Friend, why have you come? (Matthew 26:50 NKJV).
If you are betrayed, how should you respond to your betrayer?
David expressed his hurt in Psalm 55 after being betrayed by a close friend. He wrote, “But it was you, a man my equal, my companion and my acquaintance. We took sweet counsel together, and walked to the house of God in the throng” (Psalm 55:13–14 NKJV). We are not sure who David refers to, but he is clearly a dear friend.
Jesus similarly has a close companion betray Him. Judas sells out the Lord Jesus for thirty pieces of silver (the price for a slave) after Jesus has loved Him and provided for his needs.
If you’ve experienced betrayal, remember three things:
- Thank God for allowing you to share in Jesus’ sufferings. Paul desired to know “the fellowship of His sufferings” (Philippians 3:10 NKJV).
- Do not seek revenge, for God is the one who avenges His saints (Romans 12:19).
- Be grateful that you were betrayed rather than being the betrayer. It’s better to suffer for doing right than for sin.
Let’s follow Jesus’ example and give Him our burdens when we are betrayed.
Employment Point: Enter into Jesus’ sufferings when betrayed and give Him your burden to bear.
About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
