Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 163 OF 365

It is finished! (John 19:30 NKJV).

What is the meaning of Jesus’ sixth saying on the cross?

A few moments before Jesus died, He cried out, "Tetelestai," which translates to "It is finished!" (John 19:30 NKJV). In Jesus' time, this Greek term was often written across tax bills to indicate "paid in full." Jesus' declaration of "paid in full" comes just before His seventh statement on the cross: "Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit" (Luke 23:46 NKJV).

Jesus' mission was to die for the sins of the world. John the Baptist understood this profound truth, proclaiming, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29 NKJV). Jesus did not just die to save some people; He died to offer salvation to all of mankind!

Right now, take a moment and reflect on the meaning of Jesus’ sacrifice. Thank Him for His full payment on your behalf, and then boldly share this message of redemption with others.

Employment Point: Receive Jesus’ full payment for your sin to receive the gift of eternal life.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
