Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 164 OF 365

Rejoice Always (1 Thessalonians 5:16 NKJV).

How does seeking Jesus bring you peace, joy, and power?

Thomas missed Jesus’ initial post-resurrection appearance to the disciples (John 20:19–25), but there are three key lessons we can glean from this event.

  1. Jesus brings peace. When He appeared, He greeted His disciples with, “Peace be with you” (John 20:19 NKJV). His presence calms fear and provides assurance.
  2. Jesus brings joy. He showed the disciples His hands and His side, and their sorrow turned to gladness when they realized the Lord was with them (John 20:20). His resurrection transformed their despair into joy.
  3. Jesus commissions us. He sent the disciples out to share the Gospel, empowering them to be His witnesses (John 20:21-22). Christ’s calling is His enabling.

Here is some pastoral advice:

  • Seek Jesus to find peace: Start each day with prayer and reflection, inviting Jesus’ peace into your life.
  • Embrace His Joy: In difficult moments, remember the resurrection and let it fill your heart with joy and hope.
  • Share the Good News: Look for opportunities to share your faith and serve others, relying on the Holy Spirit’s power to guide you.

Employment Point: Walk with Jesus for peace, joy, and power to witness.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
