Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 166 OF 365

You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you (Acts 1:8 NKJV).

What power does the baptism of the Holy Spirit give to believers?

In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit could come upon and leave the saints. After David sinned, he prayed, "Do not take Your Holy Spirit from me" (Psalm 51:11 NKJV). But after Jesus' ascension, the Holy Spirit permanently indwells believers. Jesus explains in Acts 1:8 (NKJV), "You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

This power is shown in Acts 2. Peter, who once denied Jesus, preached boldly after being baptized by the Holy Spirit, leading to the salvation of three thousand people. His audience, moved by his message, asked, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" (Acts 2:37 NKJV).

If you are a Christian, the Holy Spirit lives in you. Let His power transform you into a bold witness for Jesus, ready to share the Gospel with conviction and love.

Employment Point: Boldly proclaim Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection through the indwelling Holy Spirit.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
