Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 161 OF 365

Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?” (John 18:38 NKJV).

What is the difference between perception and truth?

In today’s text, Pilate, the Roman governor, asks Jesus, “What is truth?” He did not understand that Truth Himself was standing before him. Pilate seemingly has the upper hand in His encounter with Jesus, which is the perception. Jesus could easily defeat Pilate. Jesus says, “If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews” (John 18:36 NKJV).

Pilate trusted what he could perceive with his eyes, while Jesus embraced what was true. The one who trusted his own deceitful eyes ended up condemning an innocent man to death, whereas the One who understood the true reality of all things willfully gave up His life to save sinners such as Pilate!

Focus on the truth above perception, and you will see things through the eyes of Jesus!

Employment Point: Trust in the God of truth above perception.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
