Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 160 OF 365

And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit (John 19:30 NKJV).

How did Jesus remain calm when He was being arrested?

In today’s reading, Jesus is arrested by about 600 troops. Perhaps they expected Him to flee because "Judas, having received a detachment of troops, and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons” (John 18:3 NKJV). However, Jesus did not flee but identified Himself and peacefully submitted to the arrest.

Jesus' arrest in Gethsemane teaches us that He yielded to His Father’s will. He chose to lay down His life, fulfilling God's plan (John 10:18). We should remain calm during trials, too, trusting in our Lord and yielding to His will.

When facing challenges, remind yourself of Jesus' peace in difficult circumstances. This comes from having faith in the Father’s goodness!

Employment Point: Yield to the One who freely gave up His life for you.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
