Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 138 OF 365

I rejoice at Your word as one who finds great treasure (Psalm 119:162 NKJV).

If someone stole your Bible, how long would it take you to notice it was missing?

Although it seems almost unbelievable, the southern kingdom of Judah had forgotten about the Old Testament. In a series of events, it was rediscovered. We read in 2 Kings, “Then Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, ‘I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD...’” (2 Kings 22:8 NKJV). What happened next? Well, the story continues with, “Now it happened, when the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, that he tore his clothes” (2 Kings 22:11 NKJV). Tearing his garments symbolized a repentant heart. The King turned to God and His word!

God blesses those who hear and obey His Word. So, how often do we turn to God's Word, not just for reading, but for understanding and obedience? What steps can we take to ensure we are regularly engaging with Scripture? Let's choose to read, hear, and obey the sacred Word for the blessing of the Lord.

Employment Point: Discover God’s Word anew, and let the revival begin.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
