Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 141 OF 365

I am the light of the world (John 8:12 NKJV).

Are you walking in God’s light?

Jesus enters the Temple before dawn, ready to teach. As he begins, religious leaders rudely interrupt, dragging in a woman caught in adultery. They seek to trap Jesus with a difficult question about the Law. John tells us that Jesus did not answer but stooped down and wrote on the ground (John 8:6-7). Now, it’s not so much what Jesus writes on the ground that’s important—Scripture doesn’t record His words. It’s how He writes, with the finger of God, reminiscent of the Law’s writing (Exodus 31:18).

As Jesus writes, his light brings conviction upon the crowd, and one by one, they disperse, from the eldest to the youngest. The adulteress, who came to Jesus shrouded in darkness, now stands in God’s light—a changed woman. How does this true story challenge us? Are there areas of darkness in our lives that we need to bring into His light today? Will you walk away from his light, ashamed, or be changed? I pray you cling to the light and walk in it!

Employment Point: Walk in God’s light by following the Light of the world.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
