Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 137 OF 365

I am the bread of life (John 6:35 NKJV).

Have you placed any idols before Jesus?

Sometimes, things that were originally intended for good can become idols in our lives. Consider the bronze serpent Moses made. When the Israelites were bitten, looking upon the serpent in faith brought healing. However, centuries later, King Hezekiah had to destroy it. “He removed the high places and broke the sacred pillars, cut down the wooden image and broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made; for until those days the children of Israel burned incense to it…” (2 Kings 18:4 NKJV). An idol can take many forms, but it ultimately steals our focus from God.

Today, what might be the “bronze serpent” in your life? What good thing has become an idol, drawing your time and attention away from Jesus? Remember, Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst” (John 6:35 NKJV). I pray your soul finds satisfaction in Jesus—the bread of life—and not in worthless idols.

Employment Point: Find your soul’s satisfaction in Jesus.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
