Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 106 OF 365

Before honor is humility (Proverbs 15:33 NKJV).

Have you humbled yourself before God?

David, anointed as king and renowned for slaying Goliath, garners praise from the women of Israel, leading to Saul's jealousy (1 Samuel 18:7-8). Unwilling to humble himself, Saul hates David's success and attempts to kill him, driven by envy. Saul did not attempt to be humble, and this would drive him into madness!

In our New Testament reading, humility is demonstrated through the prodigal son's repentance before his father (Luke 15:11-32). This narrative stresses the importance of humbling oneself before God, who welcomes and loves sinners.

Today, I urge you to copy the prodigal son's humility, acknowledging your weaknesses before your Heavenly Father. Let us not follow Saul's path of arrogance, but instead, seek the Lord through grace and humility.

Employment Point: Submit to God’s path to honor through humility.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
