Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 105 OF 365

For with God nothing will be impossible (Luke 1:37 NKJV).

Are you trusting God to accomplish great things?

Today’s reading from the Old Testament gave us three principles in overcoming objects by our trust in God’s might. Let’s start with Goliath. He was towering at nine feet and nine inches; he casts a formidable shadow over Israel.

  • This colossal figure embodies our first point: the enemy appears immense and intimidating (1 Samuel 17:1–11). Israel wants a visible king to lead them; therefore, God gives them their request, but humbles them by a greater physical king than their own.
  • Our second point urges us to confront the enemy through the lens of faith (1 Samuel 17:12–38). David, intimately acquainted with the invisible God, perceives His supremacy over any physical obstacle.
  • Lastly, we find encouragement in our third point: overcoming the impossible for God's glory (1 Samuel 17:39–58). David's victory over Goliath with a single stone exemplifies this truth.

My dear believers in the faith, let us not be intimidated by our spiritual foes but look in faith to the One who can slay giants!

Employment Point: Overcome the impossible with the eyes of faith for the glory of God.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
