It is Finished! from John 18:28-19:42; Luke 23:34-35, 44-45

Note to the parents:

This story can be hard to share with young children, even when you know how good it is. More sensitive children may become upset. It’s okay to be upset. What Jesus did for all of us was hard. But also share that this is not the end of the story! You may decide to do tomorrow’s devotion right away.

Help your child recall the story by asking simple questions about what happened.

Examples:

• What did the crowd shout?
• What was Jesus nailed to?
• Why did Jesus let Himself be killed in this way?

Together, think about what you have learned. Invite your child to ask you the question. Encourage them to add their thoughts or fill in a blank when prompted.

What did we learn about GOD?

• God is always completely fair.
• Because our sin hurts us all, He chose to give His own Son to take on the hurt of sin instead of us.

What did we learn about PEOPLE?

• People sin.
• Without Jesus, we have to feel the hurt—the consequences—from our own sin.
• Sin leads to death far from God.

What did we learn about JESUS?

• Jesus loves us so much that He agreed to die on the cross to pay the price for our sins.
• He did this so that we don't have to live and die in the hurt of sin.
• His love for us is that big.

What do you want to say to God after reading this story? (Prayer)
