God says I am ... a citizen of heaven.

If someone asked you where you’re from, you’d probably mention where you grew up. But once you said “yes,” to Jesus, did you know that your citizenship changed?

Because you are a temple of the Holy Spirit, you belong to God now, and your identity is no longer tied to your job, culture, or achievements—instead, your identity is in your relationship with Jesus. YOU are part of God’s Kingdom ... and a citizen of heaven (Ephesians 2:19).

Just like being a citizen of a country gives you rights and privileges, so does your heavenly citizenship.

Through the Holy Spirit living in you, you now have direct access to God’s presence. You don’t need an appointment or permission—you can go to Him with confidence anytime, anywhere (Hebrews 4:16).

Heaven operates under God’s authority and power. As His citizen, you’re also called to live differently—to reflect the values of the kingdom you now belong to (Philippians 1:27).

With God strengthening you, you’ll begin to look, speak, and live differently. And just like a tourist stands out in a foreign land, your heavenly citizenship will make you stand out too—in a good way! It may draw some people in and cause others to pull away, but through you, God is shining His light into the darkness, and "the darkness has not overcome it" (John 1:5, NIV).

Can the world tell that you’re different? If your answer is “no” or “maybe,” you’re not alone. Reflect with these questions.

1. Are there areas of my life where I’ve been conforming to the world instead of God’s Kingdom?
2. What makes it hard for me to live by heaven’s values?
3. Am I willing to invite God into the places that don’t reflect His best for me?
4. What is one change I can make today to live more fully as a citizen of heaven?

Dear Lord,

Thank You for giving me a new identity and a new home in You.

I am humbled and honored to be a citizen of heaven—called to live by Your truth, love, and power. Help me not to conform to the world, but to reflect the goodness of Your Kingdom.

Only You can do this, Lord. Help me live differently in Your power and authority.
