A Book Of Remembrance: Wisdom From The AgesSample

“Adversity has the effect of drawing out strength and qualities of a man that would have lain dormant in its absence.”
-Herodotus-
If there is one thing we’re guaranteed in life, it is adversity. The esteemed historian Herodotus emphasizes the sharpening effects that the trials of life can have on a man’s character in today’s quote. Would Winston Churchill have gone down in history as one of the world’s greatest leaders, if it wasn’t for the adversity he faced during his early political career? Would George Washington have left his mark on history if it wasn’t for the trials and tribulations of the Revolutionary War?
The Bible speaks quite plainly about the rewards and glory that are born in the fiery trials of life’s journey. It is evident in today’s Bible verse and others just like it. We will sit with Jesus on His throne! We will eat of the tree of life, be saved from the second death, and receive His hidden manna! (Rev. 2:7, 11, 17) We will even be given authority over nations! (Rev. 2:26) We will have our names written in His book of life, and be eternal pillars in His temple. (Rev. 3:5, 12)
So, for today, let us not view adversity with aggravation or a complaining spirit. Let us instead view it as a golden opportunity to grow closer to God, and more saint-like in character. Let us stand tall, face the world with the might of a warrior, and join the victory parade with our swords held high.
