A Book Of Remembrance: Wisdom From The AgesSample

“We condemn in others the wrong we don’t want to face in ourselves.”
-Frederick Buechner-
Sometimes in life we develop a tendency to think, mistakenly of course, that we are perfect. We have no problem seeing the faults and mistakes of our friends and neighbors, but we fail to see the even bigger flaws in ourselves. This is nothing less than self-righteous hypocrisy. Nobody is perfect yet. Christ hasn’t finished molding us into His image, and wont until our physical lives have been spent.
We can, however, be of great assistance to our fellow Christians by overcoming our faults, removing the proverbial plank from our eyes, and thereby gaining the ability to remove the speck in our neighbor’s eye. Only when we have beaten a particular habit or shortcoming do we have any business trying to correct our brethren that suffer from the same thing.
So, for today, let us focus on our own shortcomings and beseech God to remove them so that we may help others. Let us be humble, and allow God to mold us into a more perfect image of Himself, so that we may see more clearly where our greatest assistance may be needed. Let us be willing vessels of God’s spirit, and strive to give sight to the blind. (Matthew 11:5)
