A Book Of Remembrance: Wisdom From The Ages

DAY 12 OF 42

“An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.”

-Mahatma Gandhi-

Mahatma Gandhi has gone down in History as one of the most powerful influences towards peaceful resolutions to conflict, due to his belief in passive resistance. Today’s quote from him shows us the futility in trying to hurt others who intend us harm. Not only does it end up hurting us, but if this attitude prevails among everybody, it can end up harming the entire world.

Gandhi’s thinking lines up with Jesus’s words from the infamous “Sermon on the Mount,” as can be seen from today’s Bible verse. God doesn’t want us to act vengeful towards people. He wants something better for us, to go in the complete opposite direction of wrath. He wants us to GIVE! (Matthew 5:40-42)

Even though we have the spirit of God dwelling inside us, we are still imperfect vessels who are in no way capable to judge people. Only God has that ability! Vengeance is His department! (Hebrews 10:30)

So, for today, let us forgive those who have hurt us. Only then may we receive freedom from our own sins and condemnation. (Matthew 6:12) Only then may we receive true peace. Let us emulate not only Mahatma Gandhi, but more importantly Jesus Christ, the Son of God Himself. Let us give to our enemies and pray for them, so that God can pour down immeasurable blessings upon our imperfect heads.
