Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneSample

You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand (James 5:8).
What should you focus upon in light of Jesus’ imminent return?
James gives two commands and offers encouragement in James 5:8. First, he reminds believers that the Christian race is not a 100-meter dash, but rather a 26.2-mile marathon. Therefore, James states the imperative "be patient." The church has been anticipating Jesus' return for two thousand years; even so we must patiently wait. Yet the Christian life needs to be nurtured in order to be steadfast. This is why James gives the second command: "Establish your hearts." The Greek verb "establish" conveys to be fixed or firm. It occurs in 2 Thessalonians 3:3, "But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one." Finally, we are to obey these two commands "for the coming of the Lord is at hand."
Employment Point: Be patient and firm in your faith, because Jesus is returning.
