Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneSample

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9).
Do you practice your heavenly position and purpose?
God has called Jesus' church to be His elect people. Moreover, we are designated as "a royal priesthood”. Even as Abraham interceded for Lot, and the Old Testament priests for the people, we are to pray for the salvation of the lost and spiritual growth of the found. After all, we are "His own special people”. The Greek term translated "special" means to acquire or purchase. Peter then gives the purpose for God acquiring us, "that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light”. Since we have been rescued from darkness, "let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God" (Hebrews 13:15).
Employment Point: Praise the Lord continually, recognizing your heavenly status.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions helps readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word.
