Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneSample

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! (Philippians 4;4).
Do you always rejoice in the Lord?
Paul writes Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon while being under house arrest (Acts 28:30-31). Although in chains, he exhorts the saints at Philippi to continually rejoice. Circumstances didn't prevent the prisoner for Jesus from being filled with the Spirit and constantly enjoying His presence, which produces joy! Paul and Silas model that joy is a result of walking with the Lord and doesn't come because life's circumstances are favorable. After wrongfully being imprisoned in Philippi, Paul and Silas are beaten by rods and put into stocks (Acts 16:23-24). Yet "at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God" (Acts 16:25). Observe that the imprisoned duo sang "hymns to God" and not "about God." We can " rejoice always" (1 Thessalonians 5:16) by trusting the Lord through every circumstance.
Employment Point: Rejoice in the Lord continually, because He is with us throughout the trials of life.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions helps readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word.
