David is in a small town out in the fields tending the sheep. In this culture, the shepherd business was a lowly profession. If your family was rich enough, you would have servants watch the sheep. David is the one watching the sheep. So see that there was nothing impressive according to the world about him, and yet God pursues David. God sends Samuel to find David. Verse 1, “Fill your horn with oil and go. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem because I have selected a king from his sons.” Then when Samuel saw David, God said to Samuel at the end of verse 12, “Anoint him, for he is the one.” When the world did not see David as worthy to be pursued and made king, God saw him as worthy because He loved him.

God sees you as worthy to be seen and pursued because you are made in His image and He loves you. God has pursued you through Jesus on the cross to save you to Himself.
