Why are there so many sacrifices and so much blood in the Old Testament? What is the purpose and point? Scripture says that without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin (Lev. 17:11; Hebrews 9:22). Most of us have a hard time understanding the gravity of our sins.
The wages of sin is death. But the Passover was God’s way of providing salvation for His people even as the angel of the Lord swept through Egypt. Afterward, God’s people were set free from slavery. Passover is the yearly reminder of how the Lord redeemed and rescued His people from bondage and slavery. It is also a foreshadowing of the Passover Lamb, who would take away the sin of the world.
Think it Over: Why was it so important the Israelites eat a quick meal, ready for travel? How might that picture the way we should live in the world today?
