Kamp Kids Book of John StudySample

My 7 year old son asks me the deep questions. You may have asked them too. He just asked me yesterday: “I know who Jesus’ earthly parents are, but who are God’s parents….like who made God? I tried to explain to him that God has always existed. Even before time on planet Earth, God existed and He was not made, He just is. This is a tough concept for grown-ups to understand let alone a 7 year old. There are things about God that are hard to understand or even believe. God is not afraid of your questions. I will caution you that there are things about God we as humans, even with all the knowledge of google, and science, and such- we will never know. He is that big! I don’t think we want a God that can be fully explained by humans. But God does want you to get to know Him and He has revealed Himself and His heart to you in the Bible.
The Trinity (all 3 parts of God: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit) were all present in the beginning. God was speaking, The Spirit was hovering, and Jesus was right there. If you want a deeper understanding of creation, read Genesis chapters 1-3. We see the power of God’s spoken word. He said it and it was.
I love that God is light! Do you know in heaven there will be no sun? The Bible says in Revelation that Jesus Himself will be the light so there is no need for a sun or moon. (Revelation 21:23) If this world feels very dark and depressing to you sometimes, remember Jesus is the light that overcomes darkness. You can be in a pitch black room and all you need is one match and things can be seen…darkness has to flee in the presence of light.
Questions:
1. What are some of your favorite things that God created? When was the last time you enjoyed them? When was the last time you thanked Him for them?
2. “Darkness has not overcome it.” Can you think of a time when darkness/sadness didn’t win?
3. Are there dark places in your: home, school, community, heart where we can pray that His light will win?
About this Plan

"We get hype for Jesus," but why? What's so amazing about this Jesus guy? Is He really worth living for? Is He really who He says He is? "Kamp Kids John Study" was written as a 60 day devotional to keep kids engaged with Jesus and His heart, especially after coming back from "kamp" or an amazing encounter with our living God.
