Kamp Kids Book of John StudySample

Kamp Kids Book of John Study

DAY 7 OF 60

In Jewish culture kids would go to school between the ages of 5-11 and memorize the Torah (The first 5 books of the Bible). Then between the ages of 11-14 the boys would learn their father’s trade (fishing, woodworking, etc.) and the girls would learn homemaking. At age 15 they would decide if these boys were cut out to be leaders and teachers of the law. If they were, they could ask a rabbi, “Can I follow you?” If the Rabbi said “yes,” it meant the Rabbi was okay with that student becoming a teacher. If they said, “No,” the boy would have to return to his father’s trade because he was not good enough. So here we see several boys that are fishing and doing their father’s trade. What does this tell you about them? It tells you the Jewish leaders didn’t think they were “good enough,” but that didn’t stop Jesus. He wanted them. He told them to follow Him and they did, immediately. It’s interesting that the things God usually accepts are those the world rejects and what the world accepts, God often rejects. His Kingdom has different rules then ours. He has greater purposes and looks at the heart.

Questions:

1. Are you following Jesus? How?

2. When Jesus asks you to do something, do you do it right away?

3. What are some things God accepts that the world doesn’t?

4. What are some things the world accepts that God doesn’t?

About this Plan

Kamp Kids Book of John Study

"We get hype for Jesus," but why? What's so amazing about this Jesus guy? Is He really worth living for? Is He really who He says He is? "Kamp Kids John Study" was written as a 60 day devotional to keep kids engaged with Jesus and His heart, especially after coming back from "kamp" or an amazing encounter with our living God.
