Kamp Kids Book of John StudySample

Have you ever been intimidated by a “Super Spiritual"? You know, the one who seems to have it all together and you think… “I can’t be like that.” Well the “Super Spirituals” of Jesus’ day were the Jewish leaders called the Pharisees. These were the people most knowledgeable of scripture. Well, these Pharisees ambush John and ask his credentials: what right does he have to baptize? They thought, “Who does he think he is?” Yet Jesus choose John, not them, to baptize Him. God desires a humble heart submitted to Him more than one who is trying to be perfect. When we are humble we point others to Jesus. When we are prideful, we start looking at how awesome we are, our credentials, and want others to look too. We take the focus off of Jesus and want it on us.
Baptism was important to God. Jesus, who was perfect, got baptized. He set the example for us. Water vs. Spirit? Before Jesus came, John baptized people only with water as a way to prepare them and cleanse them. But when Jesus came, He baptized with the Spirit. He gives us the Holy Spirit when we believe in Him. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 and Romans 8). This Spirit talks to God on our behalf; He prays for us! He also leads us, reminds us, convicts us, teaches us, comforts us, encourages us, and so much more. We get baptized to show others we have died to ourselves and have been raised up to walk a new life in Christ, one led by the Spirit in us.
Questions:
1. Are you scared to serve God because you think someone could do a better job?
2. What are some unique ways you could point people to God? For example, if you play baseball, maybe you can pray for your team before each game.
3. Have you ever been baptized? What’s holding you back?
About this Plan

"We get hype for Jesus," but why? What's so amazing about this Jesus guy? Is He really worth living for? Is He really who He says He is? "Kamp Kids John Study" was written as a 60 day devotional to keep kids engaged with Jesus and His heart, especially after coming back from "kamp" or an amazing encounter with our living God.
