Together - Daily Devotional

DAY 162 OF 366

Wind

Wind is often likened to the Holy Spirit. Although it is similar to breath, whereas breath tends to be fairly gentle, wind speaks of great power, especially as in verse 2 it is a violent wind.  Before the advent of modern engineering, ships were powered by wind alone and the Clipper ships traversed the oceans even faster than our modern cargo ships. When the wind of the Spirit fell on the disciples He gave them power to speak, power of devotion, power to pray, power of miracles, power of unity, power of worship, power of giving, power of sincerity and power to add to their numbers daily those who were being saved.

2 Peter 1:21 teaches that the prophets and Bible authors of old were blown or carried along by the Holy Spirit. The image is of a yacht or ship with its sails filled by a powerful wind carrying along a precious cargo to waiting people. If a ship is skippered too cautiously it may not extend its sails and progress could be slow. Let us be bold to extend our sails of faith and willingness so the Holy Spirit can fill us to carry God’s love to waiting people.

Prayer: Lord,as i extend my sails of faith, I ask for the powerful wind of the Holy Spirit to blow on us

About this Plan
