DAY 157 OF 366

Dove

The Holy Spirit was previously largely unknown and difficult to describe. How then could God communicate to us what the Holy Spirit is like? He chose to use the known to explain the unknown. So the person and characteristics of the Holy Spirit are likened to wind, water, fire, a dove and so on. These are often referred to as symbols of the Holy Spirit and are God’s divine way of communicating divine truth to us.

Our first symbol of the Holy Spirit is a dove which is gentle, pure and emblematic of peace. In the story of Noah and the flood, the dove also represented the end of God’s judgment of mankind, His acceptance of Noah and the dawn of a new world for His chosen ones (Gen.8:6-12).  The Song of Songs refers to a dove in the context of passionate love (Songs 2:8-13).

But look again at the Scripture in Luke. Here the dove represented an open heaven and the Father’s confirmation of relationship, love, pleasure, acceptance and anointing. We are now the recipients of the dove of the Holy Spirit who confirms we are accepted, righteous, passionately loved and anointed to represent God in a new world order.

Prayer: Holy Spirit I thank you that you are a dove to me representing not only my heavenly Father’s end of judgment, but also confirmation that I am His accepted, chosen, anointed and loved child.
