God in Three Persons
One of our greatest hymns begins, “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty” and concludes, “God in three persons, Blessed Trinity”. The Christian faith is unique in believing in one God in three persons. There are not three separate Gods but three persons in whom divinity exists and who are called the “Godhead” (Rom.1:20, Col.2:9 NKJV). We refer to these persons as God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. They each have different roles within the Godhead but they are each eternal, holy and all powerful. The word trinity refers not so much to three different beings operating in unity but to one God with a distinct threefold expression. The three persons are separate, yet are of one "substance, essence or nature". In this context, a "nature" is what one is, while a "person" is who one is.
The doctrine of the Trinity is a fundamental teaching of Christianity and is really outside the scope of this devotional. However, what is important is that the Holy Spirit is not just a person but is divine and deserves our honour, love and obedience as we seek to be authentic disciples of Jesus and introduce others to our faith.
Prayer: Thank you Father, Son and Holy Spirit that you love me, care for me and will never leave me
