Meekness 

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Meekness is so important that Jesus spoke about it as the third characteristic in His sermon on the mountain. Once Saul and Jonathan took an army each and proceeded to fight their enemies on two different fronts. Jonathan’s army defeated and destroyed one garrison of the Philistines. The Philistines came to know of it; in order to inform the Hebrews also, Saul blew the trumpet to proclaim, “Saul had attacked the garrison of Philistines”, making his son’s triumph his own. The news of his triumph spread everywhere. 

Yes! Though the Lord had delivered the Israelites through Jonathan, he was happy to give the glory to his father, Saul. Indeed, the humility, affection and reverence he had for his father was astounding! This is an impressive lesson to all of us! By the eternal grace of God you may be crowned with success in your educational career, professional field and your spiritual pursuits. But you must humbly submit all your victories at the feet of your parents, ascribing your achievements to their endeavor with the full realization that they are the real initiators of the growth of your personality. Meekness before the Lord and your parents is dear to the Lord. Let this humility be found in you to merit the Lord’s abundant blessings! 

Prayer

“Loving Lord, as Your word says, I give all glory and honor to You and my parents who toiled for my prosperity in life. Lift me up to greater heights in the days to come that I may lift Your name and bring honor to my parents. This I ask in Jesus’ name, Amen.”
