Seek First Through Worship

What is worship? Is it just singing?

Well, one way we worship is in song. When we worship in song it's a way for us to say yes to God and no to other distractions in our lives. When we sing, especially together as a group, we are shouting to the world that we will seek Jesus first!

However, the Bible says that worship isn't something we do only in the moment of singing, but it is a whole-life attitude. Worship is the act of valuing something the most; in other words, we worship what is most important to us.

When Adam and Eve decided to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they rejected God and chased after their own desires. All of us can fall into this trap - this is misplaced worship. The Apostle Paul writes about this trap in Romans, “They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator” (Romans 1:25 NIV)

Whether you recognise it or not, you’re a worshipper. We are all worshippers; the difference between us is who or what we worship. Whatever is at the centre of our minds and hearts is what we worship, but the thing at the centre of our minds and hearts may not always be God. It might be our favourite football team or band. It could be our desires, like fame, money, or our image. To truly worship God is to have him at the centre of our hearts and minds above everything else - to seek him first. We seek him first because he is the only one truly worthy of our worship.
