Seek First

DAY 5 OF 8

Seek First when life is hard

  1. All of us go through tough seasons of life, and in those seasons, it can be difficult to persevere.

Hebrews 6:19 NIV says, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”

An anchor is something that secures a vessel in a fixed position, preventing it from drifting due to winds, currents, storms, or tides. An anchor in our faith is essential to keep us standing firm in our knowledge of who God is and who we are in Him. That anchor is Jesus!

We know that as humans we will face troubles; in fact, Jesus promises we will:

“In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NIV)

Although it’s hard, we get to choose how suffering shapes us. We get to choose our perspective on the trials and hardships that we endure.

We know that there is hope in the Lord, and we get to take this hope and share it with others, giving anchors to those who need them. The more we seek God first, the further down our anchor goes, keeping us secure when the storms rage and the wind blows.

Questions

Do you let your pain shape your image of God, or does your image of God shape your pain?

Do you seek God first in your struggles? How can you intentionally seek him more?

Prayer

Father, thank you for seeing my struggle, that you're in my struggles with me. Thank you that you’re a God who is near, and a God who knows me.

Help me to choose to seek you in the storm and to stand firm in my faith, for myself and for those around me. Amen.

About this Plan

Over 8 days we will be unpacking what it looks like to live a life by seeking Jesus First. We’ll be unpacking the themes we discussed at the DTI Summer Festival in 2025.
