The book of Proverbs is widely known as one that teaches practical wisdom and discernment. The writers wanted individuals to live well, make good decisions, and honor God in all aspects of their lives. The book provides instructions for navigating everyday life, from relationships and careers to character and speech. It offers general principles and insights to help believers live good and godly lives thanks to the divine wisdom God gives us in Scripture and through the work of His Spirit. In short, it’s a book designed to help us live wisely, and that makes it one worth listening to and applying in our lives.
Take this short piece of advice here. The writer categorizes people into two different groups: the fools and the wise. Chances are, we all want to be categorized as wise rather than foolish, right? If that’s the case, then we have to choose what the writer of Proverbs suggested here. We must choose not to be motivated by our feelings, but rather, to be a person who brings calm to themselves and others. What we feel won’t last forever, and that means we don’t have to let those feelings dictate our lives. To be wise, we can choose to pursue peace, calm, and the things of God rather than let our temporary feelings lead us to lasting decisions.
Pray this week to be a person who chooses calm—to be a wise person whose feelings don’t have to take the lead.

About this Plan

We’re all trying to navigate our way forward in this world, and yet, somehow, we tend to get stuck along the way and in more ways than one. And when that happens, we may start to believe that things will never change. In this devotional, we’ll explore the healthy ways in which we can seek freedom from the people, emotions, habits, and more that make us feel stuck. As we do, we’ll see that it’s only in Christ that we can be truly free.
