DAY 3 OF 7

Adverse Effects and Poisoning

Determine if God’s Principles Were Followed Correctly

Sometimes patients arrive in the emergency room with unpleasant symptoms due to taking prescribed or non-prescribed medication.

A medical coder will review physician and nursing documentation to assign diagnosis and procedure codes. Specifically, the coder asks questions to determine if an adverse effect or a poisoning should be coded.

Poisoning

It is considered a poisoning when the medication is not taken correctly (took too much or not enough, misused or abused the drug, taken with alcohol, etc.)

Adverse Effect

It is considered an adverse effect when the medication is taken as prescribed (right medication, right dose, right route, etc.)

Spiritual Analogy for Life Challenges

The main distinction is whether the drug was taken correctly.

We can consider this medical coding concept and apply it to our life challenges.

When we are experiencing unpleasant life symptoms, we should review the situation and determine if God’s principles were applied correctly.

Spiritual Poisoning

After reviewing the situation, it is determined that God’s principles were violated; you could consider this to be a spiritual poisoning. You can take note to avoid repeat violations and preventable consequences. You can run to the Great Physician and cry out for His forgiveness and mercy, which He will so lovingly give you. He will provide His presence, hope, comfort, healing, and direction during this difficult time.

Spiritual Adverse Effect

It may be determined, after review of the situation, that God’s principles were not violated. This life challenge was not preventable. Some examples include a loved one or friend receiving a cancer diagnosis, a job loss, or a betrayal from a friend or co-worker. It could also be as simple as being misunderstood.

Further Insights

In either situation, you may want to dive a little deeper and consider the following questions:

  1. Am I willing to invite Him into this life challenge and experience it with Him?
  2. Am I open to looking for Bible verses that provide insight, hope, encouragement, or direction so I can respond in a way that pleases Him?
  3. Are there certain character qualities I can begin working on so I can become more like Him?

If you answered “Yes” to at least one of the above questions, you can consider yourself enrolled in the School of God, where several learning opportunities are available for you. You will learn more about this during tomorrow’s reading.

About this Plan

Why?

When life hits hard, we want answers. When the rest of the world tells us to "trust God", we have pain inside that needs processing. Let's run to Jesus with our questions and learn to develop a hope and love-filled relationship with The Answer while we are seeking answers.
