Reflection:

• Swine in Jesus’ time were considered unclean according to Jewish religion. Jesus sent the demons to inhabit the pigs. What does this show you about the true nature of demons?
• How was the man described in verse 15 after Jesus set him free? How does this contrast with the original state of the man when Jesus first met him?
• Why did the people in the town ask Jesus to leave? Have fear and misplaced priorities ever kept you from experiencing the full power of Jesus in your own life?
• What mission did Jesus give the man in verses 18-20, and how did he respond? How is this similar to the mission Jesus has given you?

Pray and Apply:

Take a few moments to journal in your Seek First Journal some of the ways that Jesus has set you free. Write down how Jesus has liberated you in all different areas of your life; then reflect on the mission Jesus gave the man He set free. Ask God to show you how you can share your story of freedom with those around you. Is there an area of your life where you’re still bound by fear, addiction, a spirit of rejection, etc.? If so, ask Jesus to set you free. Confess your need for Him, and let someone you trust this week know you want to experience freedom in this area of your life. Ask him or her to pray with and for you.
