Seek First 365: A One Year Bible Reading Plan for Daily Devotion

DAY 18 OF 365

Reflection:

  • Why did John the Baptist go to prison? Is there a cost to telling the truth in our world today? Has it ever cost you in the past?
  • In verse 20, the NLT tells us that, “Herod was greatly disturbed whenever he talked with John, but even so, he liked to listen to him.” How is truth both disturbing and captivating to the human soul?
  • Herod did not want to kill John the Baptist, but what motivated his decision to have him executed? Has pride ever motivated you to do something you didn’t want to do? What were the consequences for that?

Pray and Apply:

Reflect on what made John the Baptist so great in God’s Kingdom. How can you develop these same qualities in your life? Ask the Holy Spirit to empower you to be faithful to God, to point others to Jesus, and to speak the truth even when there’s a personal cost to you.

About this Plan

Seek First 365: A One Year Bible Reading Plan for Daily Devotion

Seek First 365 is a one-year Bible reading plan designed to help you build a daily rhythm of reading Scripture, meditating on God’s Word, praying, and journaling. Instead of rushing through several chapters each day, Seek First 365 invites you to slow down and focus on a single passage—or even part of a chapter. The goal isn’t speed, but transformation. Each day is crafted to help you linger in God’s Word, listen to the Spirit, and let His truth shape your heart, mind, and life.
