Back to the Basics 365

DAY 293 OF 365

A key component that should drive our Christian relationships is compassion.

Without compassion, we become self-focused and spiritually introverted. Compassion is more than a feeling. It’s a feeling accompanied by response and action. A good biblical example is Nehemiah. In Nehemiah 1, we see him being deeply moved upon hearing of the destruction of his homeland. We can learn from the progression of his actions. The news caused him to weep for his people. He then began to fervently fast and pray to God on behalf of his people, confessing sins and begging for mercy. He prayed “day and night” (Nehemiah 1:6), and the Lord heard him. Jude 1:21-22 tells us, “Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference:”.

Your compassion can make a difference if it’s accompanied by the action of bringing issues before the Lord and obeying his response.
