THE GIFT OF GOD I

The Holy Spirit is God’s greatest gift to man. Jesus came that through His redemptive work, we may have the Spirit within. He is the inheritance we have received in salvation. When Jesus spoke with the woman at the well, He said, “If you knew the gift of God…” The gift He was referring to was the Holy Spirit. He is the promise of the Father.

The Holy Spirit is the ultimate promise of God in Scripture. The overarching blessing of salvation is the gift of the Holy Spirit. He is the very essence of Salvation in the Believer. The Spirit within is how we experience the vital reality of redemption. His eternal dwelling in us is the basis of our assurance of eternal salvation.

The promise of God to Abraham and the patriarchs is consummated in the giving of the Spirit. “That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Galatians 3:14) The patriarchs of old looked forward to this promise, and the apostles had to wait for Him on the day of Pentecost. But today, He dwells in us. The same Spirit they waited for now lives inside you. You have the Holy Ghost , God’s most precious gift living within.
