The Fight for Control

If surrender were easy, I’d have written this devotional much sooner. Truth be told, I wrestled with God like Jacob — only difference was, my battlefield was a prayer room, not a riverbank.

When the Lord started redirecting me from business to ministry, I didn’t rebel; I simply… advised. I told Him what made sense, what was “strategic,” and what would look better on paper. You see, I wasn’t disobedient — just highly opinionated. My business background had trained me to forecast, plan, and manage risk. God, on the other hand, seemed to prefer walking on water without a budget.

We went back and forth. I prayed long prayers full of reasons, figures, and backup plans, hoping He might find one of them reasonable enough to approve. He didn’t. And so, like Jacob, I wrestled until my plans limped.

The limp wasn’t punishment — it was proof that I had finally stopped fighting and started following.

Lesson
We all wrestle with God in the space between our will and His. But the moment you surrender control, peace moves in. God doesn’t break you to embarrass you; He breaks you to bless you. The limp you carry will remind you that His way works — even when it doesn’t make sense.
