Hearing God Again

After my business closed, the noise of life died down—and so did my confidence that I could still hear God. For years, I’d been surrounded by ringing phones, constant decisions, and a to-do list long enough to qualify as a scroll. Then suddenly… nothing. Silence.

At first, I called it peace. Then I realised it was discomfort. There were no clients to impress, no targets to chase—just me and God in what felt like the world’s longest quiet time. I’d pray, “Lord, speak,” and then wonder, Was that You or just my stomach reminding me it’s lunchtime?

But slowly, I began to realise that God hadn’t stopped speaking—I had stopped listening. I’d been so used to hearing Him in motion that I forgot He often whispers in stillness. His voice began showing up in Scripture again. In moments of worship. In ordinary tasks, like hanging laundry or washing dishes. It wasn’t loud or dramatic—it was gentle, familiar, and profoundly patient.

It reminded me of Elijah, standing on the mountain—no wind, no earthquake, no fire. Just a still, small voice.

When life goes quiet, it’s not that God has gone mute—it’s that He’s teaching you a new frequency. He wants to be heard in stillness as much as in storms. Don’t fear the silence; it’s His invitation to lean closer. Sometimes, the loudest revelation comes in the softest whisper.
