Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 96 OF 365

But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part (Luke 10:42 NKJV).

Have you put out the welcome mat for Jesus?

Martha, Mary, and Lazarus demonstrate wisdom by welcoming Jesus into their home (Luke 10:38–39).

  • The first lesson we glean from their example is to invite Jesus to govern our households. Like Martha, we often become preoccupied with daily tasks, as she was "distracted with much serving" (Luke 10:40 NKJV), missing out on precious time with Jesus.
  • Secondly, inviting Jesus into our minds means keeping Him and His Word central in our thoughts, resisting distractions (Luke 10:40).
  • Lastly, we must welcome Jesus into our hearts (Luke 10:41–42). Jesus lovingly redirects Martha's focus, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing one thing above all else—listening to Him, as Mary did. Let's choose to make God's Word our top priority in life, recognizing its eternal significance!

Employment Point: Welcome Jesus into your head, home, and heart.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
