Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 71 OF 365

You shall not sacrifice to the LORD your God a bull or sheep which has any blemish or defect, for that is an abomination to the LORD your God (Deuteronomy 17:1 NKJV).

Is your commitment to the Lord resembling Mary's dedication or Judas's betrayal?

In Mark 14, we witness a contrast between two acts of sacrifice: one by Mary and the other by Judas.

Mary, who loves the Lord with all her heart, mind, soul, and strength, pours out her offering for Jesus, presenting an extravagant gift worth almost a year's income. Her sacrifice speaks volumes about her devotion to the Lord. Can you imagine giving up so much to honor Jesus?

On the other hand, Judas, driven by greed and selfish motives, betrays Jesus for a mere thirty pieces of silver. His actions reveal a heart consumed by material gain, devoid of true devotion to the Lord. Judas's betrayal exposes the emptiness of religious hypocrisy.

So let me ask you, are you like Mary, willing to sacrifice your wealth to honor the Lord? Or are you like Judas, masking your true motives behind a facade of spirituality? Please examine your heart and choose to offer God your sincerest worship, free from selfish desires and pretense.

Employment Point: Render sacrifices to Jesus worthy of remembrance.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
