Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year TwoSample

Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid (Mark 6:50 NKJV).
In times of trials, do you turn your gaze towards God, or do the hardships capture your attention?
Today’s text takes us back to the shores of Galilee, where the disciples, having just witnessed the miracle of the feeding of the 5,000, find themselves in a boat, navigating the waters at the request of Jesus. A storm descends upon them, and in Mark's account of the event, we encounter a fascinating detail. In Mark 6:48 (NKJV), it's noted that Jesus "would have passed them by."
This expression is significant. In the Old Testament, particularly in Exodus 33:22 and 1 Kings 19:11, "passing by" is associated with a theophany—a visible display of God. In the storm, Jesus reveals His divine nature by walking on the water. It's a powerful illustration of God's glory intervening in the midst of life's tempests.
The disciples, caught up in the chaos, are given a unique opportunity. They're invited to witness the God-man revealing Himself during their storm. This prompts a crucial reflection for us: Are we actively looking for God's divine intervention in our challenges?
When we encounter storms of various kinds—whether they be personal struggles, tragedies, or hardships—let's be vigilant and keep our eyes on God. Instead of being overwhelmed by the waves, may we look for the God-man to reveal Himself in our storms, bringing peace and reassurance.
Employment Point: Anticipate the God–Man to reveal Himself to you during a storm of life.
