Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year TwoSample

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18 NKJV).
Who or what controls you?
In Isaiah 28, the prophet rebukes the “drunkards of Ephraim” for allowing their desires to control them instead of the Spirit of God (Isaiah 28:1, 3). Are you being governed by the Spirit or by your circumstances? Paul shares three characteristics of those who are filled or controlled by His Spirit. They are joyful, thankful, and submissive, “speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God” (Ephesians 5:19–21 NKJV).
Take a moment to reflect: what is guiding your heart today? Is it the Holy Spirit or something else? Allow the Holy Spirit to pilot your actions and attitudes, enabling you to live in joy and gratitude.
Employment Point: Seek Jesus daily and obey His Word to be controlled by the Holy Spirit.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
