Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 249 OF 365

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding (Proverbs 9:10 NKJV).

Do you possess genuine wisdom and knowledge?

Today’s reading in Proverbs tells us that the starting point for wisdom and knowledge is a deep respect for foundational truths. Proverbs 9:10 parallels Proverbs 1:7, with one difference. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,” reveals Proverbs 1:7 (NKJV); whereas Proverbs 9:10 (NKJV) states, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.” Both virtues (wisdom and knowledge) are found in Jesus Christ.

Paul preached the truth of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection to help others gain this understanding. “Moreover, brethren,” writes Paul to the Corinthian saints approximately five years after first visiting them, “I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand” (1 Corinthians 15:1 NKJV).

Have you embraced this message and let it shape your life? Accepting and understanding the gospel will unlock real wisdom and knowledge, enriching your life in meaningful ways.

Employment Point: Receive the gospel to know God’s wisdom and knowledge.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
