Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 240 OF 365

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7 NKJV).

How disciplined are you in following Jesus?

In ancient Greece, athletes in the Olympic and Isthmian games underwent strict training. Competitors were disqualified if they broke any rules. Paul uses this analogy in 1 Corinthians 9:24 (NKJV), asking, “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.”

Just as athletes focus on a temporary prize, Christians should focus on an eternal reward. Paul explains, “Everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown” (1 Corinthians 9:25 NKJV).

Take some time today and evaluate your commitment to following Jesus. Discipline yourself in your spiritual practices, knowing that your efforts are for an eternal reward. Seek God's strength and courage to stay focused on this higher goal.

Employment Point: Sacrifice self–indulgence for Jesus and await His reward.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
