Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 239 OF 365

Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification (Romans 15:2 NKJV).

Do you prioritize your fellow Christians over your own freedoms?

In Corinth, new believers came from a background of idol worship. They might see meat from temple sacrifices and not understand that “the earth is the LORD’S, and all its fullness” (1 Corinthians 10:26 NKJV), meaning God created all things for our use. Paul is concerned that this could cause confusion or stumbling for these believers.

Paul says, “If food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble” (1 Corinthians 8:13 NKJV). This shows the importance of considering others' spiritual well-being over our own freedoms. The psalmist also highlights the value of unity among believers, saying, “Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1 NKJV).

Consider how your actions might affect others. Choose to put their spiritual needs first and let love guide your decisions.

Employment Point: Sacrifice your rights in order not to cause a believer to stumble.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
